By Aaron Humes: A Honduran national who entered Belize illegally back in November 2023 and has been living here for more than 2 months was caught and is behind bars.
37-year-old Carlos Yovani Molina Carias appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate where he was read a single charge of illegal entry. He pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 due immediately, and as he was unable to pay, he was sent to prison for 90 days.
On Friday, January 19, Belize City Immigration Unit along with officers from the Belama Police Station conducted routine Construction Site checks where persons were asked to produce a form of identification.
Carias could not provide Belizean identification and in an interview admitted that he entered Belize illegally on November 30, 2023 via the Banks of the Mopan River in the Cayo District.
After completing his time, Carias will be sent back home as the court granted a removal order for his expulsion from the country.
