By Aaron Humes: 57-year-old Phillip Nicholas, a beloved family man and handyman, was killed early Sunday morning while sleeping at home with his family. Police are questioning two people in connection with the killing.

Nicholas was targeted during the early morning hours, shortly before 2:00 AM, when two armed men reportedly entered his home and opened fire on him. Despite being in the company of his wife and great-grandson, it was Nicholas who sustained fatal injuries. His wife was left traumatized but unharmed.

ASP Stacy Smith provided details regarding the incident and the ongoing investigation at a press briefing on Monday: “2 persons have been detained for questioning as the investigators seek to uncover the motive at to apprehend the culprit in this incident…police believe useful information can be obtained [from these persons] in relation to this investigation.”

According to Nicholas’ daughter, her father did not have any known enemies, and she speculated that the attackers may have been from the area, given their secluded residence. She revealed that the family had moved away from Belize City specifically to escape escalating violence.

Nicholas worked at the Leo Bradley Library since 2019. Initially hired as a security guard, he became an integral part of the library’s operations, assisting with various tasks and lending a helping hand wherever needed.

Police investigations continue.
