By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Council has announced that a portion of the Phillip Goldson Highway will be temporarily closed this morning, Saturday, February 15, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. This closure is to facilitate the ongoing Digi-Valentine Cycling Tour 2025.
The affected section of the highway runs from its junction with Chetumal Boulevard, located at the northern entrance of Belize City, to its junction with Buttonwood Bay Boulevard. The closure aims to ensure the safety of the cyclists as they navigate the final leg of Stage 2 of the race, which stretches from Belize City, up the George Price Highway to Democracia, onto the Coastal Road, and back to Belize City. This closure will be strictly enforced to provide a secure route for the participants.
Stage 2 of the Digi-Valentine Cycling Tour commenced on St. Thomas Street in front of the BTL headquarters. BTL is the parent company of Digi. The race covers a challenging 100-mile journey, showcasing the resilience and stamina of the cyclists.
Additionally, don’t forget that another portion of the Philip Goldson Highway is closed for repaving. That’s from the Rotary roundabout at the Northern entrance to the city, to the Pallotti roundabout. Both closures will be strictly enforced to provide a secure route for the participants.
The Belize City Council apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation during this event. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and be prepared for traffic diversions during the closure period.
