By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Guinea Grass Village woman ran from her own home fearing for her life, reporting that her common-law husband struck her on the head with a motorcycle helmet, punched her in the face, and choked her before she managed to break free, and a man is now detained as the village logs yet another domestic violence matter.
According to the Belize Police Department, the 28-year-old woman visited the Orange Walk Police Station on Sunday, August 9, 2026, to report the attack of the previous day.
She told police that on Saturday, August 8, at about 3:00 p.m., she was at home when her common-law husband of the past six years arrived at the residence and began behaving aggressively toward her. According to her report, he took a black motorcycle helmet in his right hand and struck her on the left side of her head, causing pain, then punched her on the left cheek with his right hand, causing further pain.
The man then began choking her, she reported. She managed to free herself from his grip and ran outside, fearing for her life.
The following morning, at about 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, she returned to the residence, where, according to her report, the man told her to take out her things, saying he did not want her again. She then made her report to police.
A statement was recorded from the woman, and a man was detained for the crime of common assault.
The report marks the fifth domestic-related matter from Guinea Grass Village in recent weeks, a pattern that has ranged from threats and finger-pointing confrontations to knife threats against a mother and her babies, and now a choking.
