By Breaking Belize News Staff: A workplace dispute turned violent last week, leaving one man with a fractured skull and his co-worker behind bars on an attempted murder charge.
Lyndon James Johnson, 59, a heavy duty machine operator of Carmelita Village, was arraigned Tuesday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for the attempted murder of 36-year-old Orilis Garcia, a health and safety officer at Teichroeb and Sons Ltd.
Police say the incident occurred on September 2, 2025, at the Burrell Boom Junction worksite when Johnson allegedly struck Garcia on the left side of his head with a piece of lumber during an argument over a traffic cone deduction from Johnson’s salary. Garcia sustained a skull fracture and underwent surgery at Belize Healthcare Partners, where he remains in stable condition.
Johnson, who had stopped showing up to work after the incident, was arrested earlier on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and grievous harm.
Due to the seriousness of the offenses, no plea was taken and bail was denied under Section 16 of the Crimes Control and Criminal Justice Act. Johnson has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until November 10, 2025.
