By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Health and Wellness hosted a Continuous Medical Education (CME) training today at the Belize Biltmore Plaza, bringing together healthcare professionals from both the public and private sectors for a refresher course on malaria and dengue.
The session focused on strengthening surveillance and improving the clinical management of these mosquito-borne diseases.
Facilitated by Dr. Erei Nuñez and Dr. Javier Novelo, the training ensured that healthcare providers are up to date with the latest best practices, policies, and procedures for case detection and treatment.
The initiative comes as part of national efforts to enhance preparedness during the rainy season, a period when dengue transmission and other mosquito-related illnesses typically rise.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed that similar trainings will continue across the country in the coming weeks, reinforcing the readiness of frontline medical staff to respond effectively to potential outbreaks.
