Health, Restaurants and clothing costs rise in May

By Zoila Palma:  Beyond fuel, food and utilities, Belizeans also faced higher costs for healthcare, dining services and clothing in May 2026, according to the latest Consumer Price Index report from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

The health category recorded one of the largest increases among all sectors, rising by 7 percent compared to May 2025. The SIB said the increase reflected higher charges for medical services, including hospitalization and surgical procedures.

Restaurants and accommodation services also became more expensive, with prices increasing by 3.4 percent over the year.

SIB attributed the rise primarily to higher costs at restaurants and cafés.

Meanwhile, the clothing and footwear category climbed by 3.3 percent due to increased prices for garments for both men and women.
