By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A quiet Saturday night in Belize City turned tragic after a 9-year-old student, Evandey Martinez, suddenly died at home, prompting a police death investigation.
Around 9:40 p.m. on October 11, 2025, officers responded to an emergency report near the corner of Linda Vista and Police Street, where they found the child’s guardian, 48-year-old Martha Allen, holding the unresponsive minor.
Police transported Evandey to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where doctors made every effort to save the child’s life. Sadly, Evandey was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m.
According to police, earlier that evening, the child had complained of headaches, back pain, and difficulty breathing before collapsing on the sofa. Investigators confirmed there were no signs of injuries or foul play.
Allen told police that Evandey had suffered from asthma since birth, but had no other known health complications. The body now lies at the KHMH morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
