By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 19-year-old student from Hattieville has reported an alleged online scam after paying BZ$550 for an iPhone that he says was never delivered.

Police said Giovanni Ortiz reported that on August 4, he was browsing Facebook Marketplace when he saw a post from a person identified as Jared Franklin advertising a black iPhone. Ortiz said he agreed to purchase the phone for BZ$550.

According to the report, Ortiz initially deposited BZ$250 into an Atlantic Bank account in the name of Renan Blake.

The seller allegedly demanded the remaining BZ$300, claiming the phone would not be sent unless the full payment was made. Ortiz said he subsequently deposited the balance after receiving a photograph of what appeared to be a Caribbean Sprinters package receipt.

Ortiz later contacted Caribbean Sprinters Water Taxi to inquire about the shipment and was reportedly told that the receipt was an old document from 2023. Police said Ortiz had not received the phone at the time of his report and had been unable to contact Renan Blake despite several attempts.
