By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 43-year-old farmer from Hattieville was remanded to prison on Wednesday after being charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 17-year-old daughter. The accused, whose name has not been released to protect the victim’s identity, was denied bail by the Magistrate due to the serious nature of the charges.
According to a police report; the victim, who is a student, and her mother reported to the Hattieville Police Station on Monday, August 25, 2025, that the father had been touching her inappropriately throughout July. The report further alleges that on August 25, the day her school year began, the father raped his daughter at their home. A medical examination confirmed the assault.
During the arraignment, the prosecutor, a Sergeant of Police, strongly objected to bail. He cited the gravity of the crime, the family relationship between the accused and the victim, and concerns for the safety of both parties. The prosecutor also argued that the defendant, who did not have a fixed address and was not from the area, posed a flight risk.
When asked by the Magistrate why he should be granted bail, the accused stated that he did not understand the question or the charge of rape. Magistrate Mannan explained the charges to the defendant, but he was unable to provide a reason for bail. The Magistrate ultimately sided with the prosecution, denying bail.
The accused is scheduled to return to court on October 17, 2025. He was informed that he has the right to apply for bail at the High Court with the assistance of an attorney.
