By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gwen Lizarraga High School retained the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Boys Football Championship by overwhelming Wesley College with a stunning 10-0 victory on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.
Calvin Thurton led the charge with an incredible four-goal haul, while Devin McCaulay netted twice. Raymond Gentle, Shane Vernon, Jonathan Garay, and Ajare August also added their names to the scoresheet. This result was a stark contrast to their regular season encounter, where Gwen Lizarraga had beaten Wesley 5-2. In the final, Wesley crumbled and weren’t able to match the brace from their regular season encounter.
Gwen Lizarraga will now go on to represent the Belize District in the upcoming National Secondary Schools Sports Association competition next Friday in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
In the third-place match, Sadie Vernon High School won over ACC with a 2-1 score. Kenard Armstrong and Devon Augustine found the net for Sadie Vernon, while Raymond Bowen scored for ACC.
