By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Defending champions, Gwen Lizarraga High School, will aim for a repeat of the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Boys Basketball Championship in the final against the St John’s College (SJC) Wildcats on Saturday, December 7, at Swift Hall in Belize City.
The final is a re-edition of last year’s final in which Gwen Liz won 74-66 and went on to win the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) championship and the silver medal at the Central American Under 18 CODICADER Games in El Salvador in October of this year.
On Tuesday, third-seeded SJC advanced to the Final with a 48-42 victory over second-seeded Maud Williams High School, who had reached the semifinals undefeated. Daniel Musa scored 18 points and Edward Thompson added 16, combining for 34 points, to nullify the 33 converted by Maud Williams’ Jason Orosco.
One day earlier, number one seeded Gwen Liz took out fourth Wesley College 40-29 to advance to the final. Captain Augustine Pitterson scored 12 points for Gwen Liz in their winning effort. Raymond Gentle Jr. added 9 points.
Wesley were led by Deon Bennett with 9 points.
Maud Williams will play Wesley College for third place.
