By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gwen Lizarraga High School’s boys’ basketball team have once again claimed the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) Championship title, securing back-to-back victories in a dominant fashion. In the final match held at Swift Hall in Belize City, Gwen Liz triumphed over Independence Technical High School with an impressive score of 67-37 over Independence High School.

This victory follows their previous championship win last year, when they defeated the Northern Champions San Pedro High School 61-33 in the final at Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio to clinch the national title.

This year is not only the second consecutive title for Gwen Liz, but it is also the third consecutive title for the Central Zone. Prior to Gwen Liz’s double, Sadie Vernon Technical High School won the 2022 NSSSA Championship, defeating Southern Champions Stann Creek Ecumenical High School 72-60 at the Punta Gorda Multisports Complex in the tournament hosted by Toledo Community College.
