Gwen Liz beat Wesley College 2-1, win CSSSA Boys Football Competition

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gwen Lizarraga High School defeated Wesley College 2-1 in the second leg of the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Boys Football Competition Finals on Saturday at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.

Having won the first leg 2-0 on Wednesday, Gwen Liz won the championship on a 4-1 aggregate score.

Wesley opened the scoring with a 27^th minute goal by Jacob Joseph.

Gwen Liz evened the score on a Calvin Thurton goal in the 62^nd minute. That was Thurton’s third goal in the Finals. Christon Linares then put the game away in the 86^th minute for a 2-1 victory.

The Gwen Liz girls went down to Wesley in the second leg of the final 1-0 but still won the CSSSA Championship on a 2-1 aggregate having blanked Wesley 2-0 in the first game last Wednesday.

Pallotti High School won third place in the Girls Championship with a 5-4 aggregate score over St Catherine. Saint Catherine won the first leg 3-1 but Pallotti triumphed 4-1 in extra time in the return leg.

St John’s College won third place in the Boys Championship in a 3-2 penalty shootout after a 5-5 aggregate draw that went into extra time. Sadie Vernon won the first leg 3-1 but SJC took the return leg 4-2 in extra time forcing the penalty kicks shootout.
