By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Defending champions Gwen Lizarraga High School (Gwen Liz) displayed an impressive performance, defeating Sadie Vernon Technical High School 4-1 to secure their place in the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Boys Football Championship Final on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.

Gwen Liz secured their berth in the final with two early goals by Calvin Thurton, who found the net in the 17th and 26th minutes. Raymond Gentle and Jaymer Bradley added to the tally with goals in the 58th and 60th minutes, respectively, sealing the victory.

Nisan Mariano scored the lone goal for Sadie Vernon in the 52nd minute, briefly igniting hopes of a comeback. However, Gwen Liz’s dominant play quashed any chance of an upset as they went on to score two more goals for added comfort.

Gwen Liz will now face Wesley College in the final on Saturday at the same venue. Wesley College advanced to the final after edging out Anglican Cathedral College (ACC) 6-5 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The CSSSA champions will advance to the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) championship, which will be hosted by Mount Carmel High School in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Friday, February 21, 2025.
