By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A shooting on East Canal in Belize City on Saturday night, September 27, 2025, has left five individuals, including a suspected gunman, hospitalized with gunshot injuries.
Police were alerted around 8:30 p.m. after reports of shots being fired in the area. Investigators later confirmed that four people had been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment. All four sustained gunshot wounds and remain in stable condition.
Officials say the shooting unfolded when a silver van without a license plate pulled up at the corner of East Canal and Dean Street. Two armed men exited the vehicle and opened fire on a group gathered near a white van, striking multiple individuals. The shooters then fled in the same van, escaping up Dean Street.
Minutes later, police reported that a 20-year-old man from Police Street arrived at the KHMH with gunshot injuries. He is believed to be one of the attackers injured during the exchange.
Scenes of Crime personnel recovered spent shells and blood samples from the area. Investigators are reviewing surveillance camera footage as part of their inquiry. The matter remains under investigation.
