By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating a double murder following a deadly shooting at a Queen Street residence in Punta Gorda Town that claimed the lives of two young men.
Preliminary investigations indicate that around 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, several individuals were socializing at the home of Luis Barillas when a slim-built, dark-complexioned male, wearing a grey sweater with a hoodie, arrived at the entrance of the residence.
Police say the suspect appeared to be attempting to purchase illegal drugs. When Derick Arnold opened the zinc gate to the yard, the gunman allegedly opened fire, striking Arnold before continuing to shoot Barillas. Both men were fatally injured.
The suspect then fled the scene. Other individuals present managed to escape unharmed, and no additional gunshot victims were reported at the hospital.
Scene of Crime personnel processed the area and recovered nine expended shell casings from the entrance and inside the premises. Investigations remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.
