By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating a frightening incident in Belize City after a 13-year-old boy narrowly escaped what is being treated as an aggravated assault on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the incident occurred on April 12, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the Mayflower Alley area. The minor was walking through the alley from Lakeview Street toward Mayflower when he was approached by two unidentified male individuals wearing ski masks.
One of the suspects reportedly pulled out what appeared to be a grey 9mm pistol from his waist, pointed it at the boy, and pulled the trigger. However, the weapon failed to discharge.
Fearing for his life, the minor managed to escape unharmed by running and jumping over a nearby fence before making his way home on Banak Street.
The child’s grandmother reported the incident to police later that evening at around 7:30 p.m. at the Precinct 1 CIB office.
Police have since recorded statements and visited the scene. Authorities have also noted that surveillance cameras are present in the area, and footage is expected to be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. GPS coordinates of the scene have been documented.
At this time, no injuries have been reported, and no persons are in custody as police continue their investigation into the incident.
