By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Deportivo San Benito dominated the action at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Wednesday evening dropping Verdes 3-1 in an international friendly match.
Guatemala First Division League club San Benito scored through the efforts of Germán Velásquez, William Barillas, and Kleyman Moscoso.
Down 3-0, Colombian Camilo Sánchez Fajardo scored a penalty kick for Verdes for the final 3-1.
In Guatemala, the Guatemala First Division League is the second tier under the Guatemala National Football League that features clubs like Municipal and Comunicaciones. Guatemala’s Second Division League is the third tier league.
Both teams are preparing for their upcoming national tournaments. Verdes are aiming at regaining the national title they lost last season to Altitude in the Opening Championship and to Port Layola in the Closing Championship. The Premier League of Belize 2024-25 Opening Season is set to kick off on August 3.
With that practice match over, Verdes will be hitting the road enroute to the city of Chicastenanago, Department of Quiché, where they will tackle Guatemala Second Division League team Chichicasteco FC. That match will be on Sunday, July 21, at 11:00 am at the Estadio Tzocomá in Chichicastenango.
Chichicastenago is approximately 395 miles from the Guatemalan border town of Melchor de Mencos.
Chchicasteco FC are also preparing for the kick off of their league championship.
