By Aaron Humes: A Guatemalan woman who has two children for a Belizean-Salvadoran resident of Caye Caulker, Belize District, is being accused of unlawfully leaving the country with the progeny of their union.
According to Oscar Montoya, on New Year’s Eve his common-law wife 35-year-old Rosa Maria Gonzalez Llamas traveled to Guatemala along with their two children Oscarito Montoya, nine, and Josue Montoya, six. Both boys are Belizean by birth and are currently attending Caye Caulker Roman Catholic primary school.
Montoya told police that he has had numerous conversations with Rosa Gonzalez since she left, and has sent money to her via Western Union on two occasions for her to feed the children as she doesn’t have any money and is not working. But when he asked Rosa when she was coming back, she told him that she was not. She has since blocked him on WhatsApp, which was their only means of communication.
Montoya insists that at no point in time has he given her any permission or form of written consent to travel to another country with his children.
Police are on alert countrywide and if Rosa or the children are seen, contact 922 or the nearest police station.
