Guatemalan man looking for work on Caye Caulker fined $1,000; to be deported from Belize

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Guatemalan man caught on Caye Caulker over the weekend has been fined and ordered to leave Belize after failing to produce a valid visitor’s permit.

Arsenio Guadalupe Tut Pinelo, 29, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where he pleaded guilty to failure to produce a visitor’s permit.

Pinelo, who told the court he came to Belize seeking work and had been doing construction on the island, was fined $1,000 plus $5 court costs. He was ordered to pay immediately or face six months in prison.

The Immigration Department also applied for his deportation, which the court approved.
