Guatemalan man living in Belize remanded for attempted murder after beating wife unconscious with broomstick he broke on her; She remains in critical condition

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Guatemalan construction worker living in Belize has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he was charged in connection with a violent domestic dispute that left his common-law wife hospitalized in critical condition.

Twenty-nine-year-old Marbin Yonel Ical, of the Lake Garden area in Ladyville, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning, where he was arraigned on three indictable charges: attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm.

The charges stem from an incident involving his common-law wife, 29-year-old Deysi Yamilex Graham Garcia, also a Guatemalan national living in Belize.

No plea was taken from Ical because the offenses are indictable. Due to the nature of the charges, bail was denied and he was remanded until August 26, 2026.

According to police information, officers responded to the Lake Garden area on June 29, 2026, after receiving a 911 report of an unresponsive woman inside a home. When officers arrived, they met Ical, who allegedly told police that he and his wife had been fighting and that he had struck her with a broom.

Inside the house, police found Garcia unresponsive with multiple visible injuries, including swelling and bruises to her face, neck, back and stomach, a missing tooth, a cut wound to her right hand, and a head injury. She was transported by ambulance to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where police say she remains in critical condition.

The scene was processed by a Scenes of Crime technician, who reportedly recovered a broken broomstick and a piece of plywood as exhibits. Police also observed suspected blood on Ical’s short pants, which was obtained for DNA analysis.

Ical was detained and later formally charged. He is spending his first night on remand at the Belize Central Prison.
