By Breaking Belize News Staff: On September 15, 2025, Guatemala will celebrate its 204th Anniversary of Independence.
The official social media pages for the Guatemalan Army has shared flyers of the Independence celebration.
But, their Guatemalan map shows Belize as part of their nation.
In addition, comments below the post are of Guatemalans urging to “Go to Belize and fight for what is ours.”
Tensions are high following multiple incidents in the Sarstoon.
Most recently, the Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) illegally installed a Guatemalan flag at the Sarstoon. The Government of Belize has formally protested the actions of the GAF.
And today, members of the Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) visited the Sarstoon and were escorted by the BDF and the Belize Coast Guard but they were intercepted by 3 vessels of the Guatemalan Armed Forces.
