By Breaking Belize News Staff: Guatemala has responded to remarks made by Prime Minister John Briceño at the United Nations, where he mentioned Guatemala’s “repeated aggression and provocative actions” along the Sarstoon River.

Guatemala reaffirmed that its territorial claims with Belize are before the International Court of Justice, stressing that the final ruling will resolve the long-standing dispute.

Officials also noted that immediate steps were taken, including talks between both countries’ defense ministries and a meeting between President Arévalo and Prime Minister Briceño.

Guatemala further criticized what it called “imprecise versions” of the Sarstoon incidents being circulated internationally, warning that such narratives undermine trust and confidence between the two nations.
