By Zoila Palma: Our Lady of Guadalupe RC Primary School in Belmopan City has joined the Greening Belize Initiative, with students participating in a tree-planting activity aimed at promoting environmental awareness and supporting Belize’s goal of planting one million trees by 2030.
The Belize Forest Department noted that the activity brought students together to plant trees around their school and learn about the importance of trees in creating a greener and healthier environment.
The initiative also involved Ms. Earth Belize, Vashti Thompson, who joined the students in the environmental activity.
The department noted that planting the trees is only the first step, as students will also help care for them by watering and monitoring their growth. Their involvement is intended to encourage responsibility for the environment and help ensure the newly planted trees survive.
The Forest Department is also encouraging participants to record their planted trees using the Greening Belize app.
