By Zoila Palma: Students, educators, and officials gathered on Thursday, October 23, 2025, to mark the official groundbreaking for the ITVET Belize City Rehabilitation Project, a major initiative aimed at transforming technical and vocational education in Belize.
The ceremony brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), alongside students and staff of the Belize City Institute for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET).
The project, part of the government’s Skills for the Future Program, will see the well-established ITVET compound completely rehabilitated and reimagined as a modern, inclusive, and innovation-driven model for technical and vocational training in Belize.
Once completed, the upgraded campus will introduce two new training programs designed to prepare students for emerging opportunities in the country’s green and blue economies.
The facilities will also be outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, including 3D printers, drones, and other digital tools, to enhance hands-on learning and innovation.
In addition, 20 instructors will undergo specialized training to adopt modern, problem-based teaching methods that align with global best practices.
