By Breaking Belize News Staff: As tensions rise over the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) strike notice, new reports reveal the government’s latest offer to unions — a staggered 8.5% salary increase spread across three years.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the proposal includes a 3% raise in year one, another 3% in year two, and a final 2.5% in year three. Additionally, the government has agreed to unfreeze two of the salary increments that were previously withheld during cost-saving measures.

While the full proposal still awaits Cabinet approval, this offer marks a key step by the government to ease ongoing frustrations in the education sector. Whether it will be enough to avert industrial action remains to be seen, as the BNTU weighs the offer with its membership.
