By Aaron Humes: With $72 million in gross sales reported through this point in August, the Belize Government Lotteries Limited (BGLL) is expected to turn a healthy profit in its first year of operations.
Narda Garcia, Chair of Lotteries Commission and CEO in the Office of the Prime Minister, reported on Monday that at present the net profit is $13.5 million with just $600,000 spent on administrative costs – software and information technology and staff. Approximately 70 percent of sales is paid out in winnings and a further 15 percent in sales commissions to agents.
The BGLL projects that by December, sales will have gone up to $110 million and profits to no less than $16 million, perhaps as much as $20 million.
