Government warns against misuse of official vehicles

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Government employees who operate official vehicles are being warned that random checkpoints will be conducted to ensure compliance with the Government of Belize Vehicle Policy.

In a memorandum issued by the Assets and Utilities Management Unit, officials reiterated that government vehicles must only be used for official purposes and must always carry properly completed vehicle logbooks.

The memo also reminds operators that unauthorized personnel are not allowed in government vehicles and that passengers authorized to ride in the rear of trucks must be properly seated. Drivers are required by law to stop at official checkpoints and cooperate fully with law enforcement officers.

Accounting officers have been specifically advised that government vehicles are not allowed at Christmas functions or any event involving alcohol consumption.

The government says these measures are necessary to curb abuse, protect public resources, and maintain public trust, adding that enforcement will be firm and uncompromising.
