The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries categorically refutes recent media reports alleging that “at least 70 drug planes landed in Belize between 2020 and 2021.” This statement, attributed to leaked foreign sources, is not supported by the official verified data maintained by Belizean authorities.
According to the official record of illegal landings compiled between 2018 and 2025, the actual figures are as follows:
This confirms that only 25 illegal landings occurred during 2020–2021, far below the claim of 70 being circulated.
Since 2022, the number of illegal landings has shown a marked decline. In 2022, there were seven (7) recorded landings, which dropped significantly to just two (2) in 2023. In 2024, there were three (3) reported landings and for 2025, only two (2) incidents have been recorded to date.
This steady reduction reflects the success of Belize’s multi-agency strategy to record, verify and report all illegal landings by using enhanced air surveillance, interdictive operations, and collaboration with regional and international allies.
