Government of Belize launches: Greening Belize: A Million Trees for Climate and Sustainable Development

By Zoila Palma:  On January 26, 2026, Prime Minister John Briceño joined Minister Orlando Habet and other officials of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management for the launch of a new initiative called “Greening Belize: A Million Trees for Climate and Sustainable Development.”

Through this national reforestation project, the Government of Belize is encouraging Belizeans to support the ambitious goal of planting 1 million new trees across the country by 2035.

A microgrants program has also been launched by the Ministry and its partners to incentivize conservation-minded individuals and organizations within the Belize River Watershed who want to contribute to the long-term preservation of Belize’s forests.
