By Aaron Humes: The press has been invited to a press conference this afternoon in Belize City at the Biltmore Plaza by the Government to clarify the land purchase for the new hospital to be built in Belmopan.
On Friday there was a small protest outside the Prime Minister’s office in Belmopan concerning the issue, attended by the Opposition United Democratic Party and leaders of the major trade unions. They have objected to the decision to move the building of the new University Hospital with funds from Saudi Arabia from “unsuitable” land owned by the University to a pair of parcels closer to the highway that was recently bought for $6.9 million from a Corozal-based Chinese businessman.
The press conference will be held at 3:30 this afternoon and we will have coverage on BBN platforms.
