By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement saying that the Government of Belize is currently assessing the impact of a new 10% tariff imposed by the United States, following an announcement by President Donald Trump.
Belize is one of more than fifty countries included in the tariff list.
In response, government officials have initiated a rapid analysis to understand the full scope of the tariff’s effect on Belize’s economy.
The Government of Belize has committed to engaging in consultations with relevant stakeholders and will pursue bilateral discussions with U.S. officials.
Additionally, the Ministry noted that Belize will coordinate with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to ensure the country’s economic interests are protected during this process.
