By Zoila Palma: In a continued effort to ensure no one is left behind, several government ministries, in partnership with UNICEF Belize, visited the remote village of Graham Creek over the weekend to advance access to essential water and health services.
The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government; the Ministry of Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Indigenous Affairs and Transportation; and the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
The visit focused on planning the installation of a new solar-powered water system for the village, one of Belize’s most isolated communities.
This initiative is part of a broader partnership, supported by funding from the Government of Korea, that has been strengthening primary health care and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) services across the country over the past two years.
In Graham Creek, UNICEF has worked closely with the Ministry of Health to equip and train the local community health worker, ensuring continued care and support in this underserved area.
Officials emphasized that interministerial and international collaboration is key to delivering equitable access to vital services in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
