By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A group of 15 marine scientist students led by professors Joe Meisel, Catherine Woodward and Teal Guetschow from the Ceiba Foundation, just wrapped up an incredible 10-day field visit to the Glover’s Reef Research Station (GRRS) on Middle Caye.
The students immersed themselves in hands-on learning for their Coral Reef Ecology Field Course, accredited through the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
WCS Belize noted that during the visit, students conducted mini research projects on the patch reefs, practiced field techniques in conservation, did observation in the tide pools of the back reef, viewed mangrove on the island, and finally conducted a clean-up on the beach of trash and plastics that washed ashore.
Operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the Glovers Reef research station (GRRS) has been facilitating groundbreaking marine research since 1995.
With its strategic location on Glover’s Reef Atoll and boasting 35,000 hectares of pristine marine habitat, this station offers unparalleled opportunities for scientific exploration.
