By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🏀 The Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) have officially appointed Glenn Gill as their new Deputy Commissioner, reinforcing their leadership team ahead of a highly anticipated comeback in July 2026.

Gill, a respected figure in Belizean basketball, joins Amir Garcia under the stewardship of Commissioner Claudio Leal, who enters his second year at the helm. The BPBL said their expanded executive lineup signals the BPBL’s renewed commitment to operational excellence, competitive integrity, and long‑term development.

A former Commissioner of the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL), Gill is also one of Belize’s longest‑serving referees. His credentials include international recognition as a FIBA‑certified official, earning widespread respect for his technical acumen and leadership both on and off the court.

The appointment follows a competitive 2025 BPBL season in which the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were crowned champions, defeating the Cayo Western Ballaz in a best‑of‑three finals series. The Tiger Sharks reached the finals after seeing off the EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers in the semifinals, while the Western Ballaz earned their place by overcoming the Belize City Thunderbolts.

In his new role, Gill will oversee league operations and regional readiness, supporting teams, officials, and game‑day logistics as the BPBL prepare for their next phase.

The league’s return in July 2026 comes at a time of renewed energy in Belizean basketball. The BPBL have also extended congratulations to the National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) on their announced relaunch in February, emphasizing collaboration and mutual growth across the sport.

“The Belize Premier Basketball League remains committed to development and unity,” the release stated, “recognizing that a strong basketball ecosystem benefits players, officials, teams, and fans nationwide.”
