By Breaking Belize News Staff: Gian Teck, 20, is scheduled to stand trial later this month for Unlawful Sexual Intercourse (USI) involving a minor, following a Case Management Conference (CMC) held Wednesday in the High Court.
Presiding Justice Nigel Pilgrim has set the trial date for March 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The proceedings will be held in camera, meaning the hearing will be closed to the media and the general public to protect the privacy of the parties involved.
During the conference, the court identified the core issues to be addressed during the trial. The Prosecution indicated that the case relies heavily on the credibility and reliability of the virtual complainant. The Crown intends to call two live witnesses: the minor and a medical doctor.
The Defense intends to challenge an alleged admission made by Teck. The defense argues the victim’s story was “manufactured” and claims the admission was only given by Teck to protect the minor, asserting it contains no truth.
Teck has maintained his innocence and has no intention of entering a guilty plea, according to his counsel.
This new trial date comes shortly after Teck “walked” from a previous, separate USI charge involving a 14-year-old. That matter ended in a nolle prosequi before Justice Candace Nanton on January 28, 2026, effectively halting the prosecution at that time without a specific reason provided.
In this current case, Teck is accused of having sexual intercourse with a different minor, aged 14 years and 11 months. He remains out on bail, which was extended by the High Court pending the start of his trial on March 23.
