By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The defending national champions Georgetown Technical High School Egrets opened their 2025–26 NSSSA Girls Football Championship campaign with a 2–1 victory over Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School Friday afternoon at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.
Both teams battled through a competitive match, but Georgetown Technical’s composure and experience carried them through as they secured the first win of the tournament. The result sends the Egrets into Saturday’s 12:00 pm National Final, where they will attempt to claim back‑to‑back NSSSA girls’ titles.
Mount Carmel move into Saturday’s 8:00 am third‑place match.

The tournament continues today with the second girls’ semifinal at 6:00 pm, featuring Belize High School of Agriculture against EP Yorke High School. The winners will meet Georgetown Technical in Saturday’s final.
At the same time, the first boys’ semifinal is currently underway, with Julian Cho Technical High School facing Sacred Heart College in the 4:00 pm matchup.
Later tonight at 8:00 pm, defending boys’ champions Gwen Lizarraga High School take on Orange Walk Technical High School as they begin their bid for consecutive national titles.
All placement matches — both finals and third‑place games — will be played on Saturday.
