By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old George Street resident has been fined after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
Kaden Dennis Young, a construction worker of George Street, Belize City, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Neeshad Rohammed in Court #5 at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was read a single charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply 234 grams of cannabis, or a little more than half a pound.
Young pleaded guilty with an explanation. He was fined $1,700 plus a $5 cost of court, which he must pay by December 30, 2026. In default of payment, he will serve five months in prison.
According to police, on Friday, June 12, 2026, officers were on foot patrol on Rocky Road when their attention was drawn to a Ford Focus heading toward the Rocky Road booth. Police pursued the vehicle, and the driver reportedly ran from the car, leaving a male passenger inside.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing two other plastic bags with green leafy substances suspected to be cannabis. The passenger was initially detained, but was later spared from charges after Young turned himself in to police as the driver of the vehicle.
In mitigation, Young asked the court for leniency, saying this was his first conviction.
