For the past three years, FCD has worked with the community on fire prevention and firefighting, with support from the Municipality of Melchor de Mencos and Guatemala’s National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP).
This week, FCD’s Park Manager joined Guatemalan partners for a community site visit to La Rejoya to explore ways to enhance conservation efforts and reduce the risk of fires spreading into Chiquibul National Park.
During the visit, more than 30 community members verbally agreed to a draft community conservation agreement, marking another step toward strengthening cross-border cooperation in protecting the region’s forests and natural resources.
