By Zoila Palma: The Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) has received financial support from the European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to strengthen efforts to address cross-border threats in Belize.

Human trafficking and the movement of illegal goods remain challenges for Immigration and Customs Officers along Belize’s borders.

Within the Chiquibul Ecosystem, which includes a 43.5-kilometre stretch of Belize’s western border, key threats include cattle ranching and the illegal wildlife trade.

FCD said the support will strengthen its capabilities and operational efforts to address these challenges over the next 13.5 months.
