Friends for Conservation and Development and Community Baboon Sanctuary awarded $50,000 to empower conservation efforts

By Zoila Palma:  On March 19, 2026, the Belize Nature Conservation Foundation Grant Program, managed by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) awarded $50,000 each to Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) and the Community Baboon Sanctuary, empowering them to broaden their vital conservation efforts.

FCD says that it plans to use the funds to launch and sustain an enforcement patrol system to safeguard the Chiquibul Caverns.

The Women’s Conservation Group, stewards of the Community Baboon Sanctuary, will channel their grant into a public education campaign for the Belize River Valley Community.
