By Aaron Humes: Robert Zetina, a chef from the island of Caye Caulker, Belize District, is in debt to the courts for $400 because, he says, he was trying to help a friend.
43-year-old Zetina pleaded guilty to possession of controlled drugs, to wit, 0.3 grams of crack cocaine. Zetina was found with the illegal substance during a police routine check on Caye Caulker on Friday morning, January 12.
Zetina explained that he had gone to buy the drugs for a friend who smokes it and that he always asked him to buy it for him. He asked for leniency saying, “I will learn from this, I love my job.”
The court spared him jail time and issued a fine of $400 plus cost of court. He was given until March 28, 2024 to pay, in default 3 months imprisonment.
