By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After earning his USA Basketball Gold Coach License for the ninth consecutive year, Roscoe Anderson Rhys is again putting his credentials to work—this time through a high-impact 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament hosted by Belize Global Elite Academy on November 8–9 at the Belize City Civic Center.
“So far we have little over 100 kids signed up and we are looking for 200 more hundred students to sign; 50 more participants to sign up in each category,” Rhys told Breaking Belize News.
“Free registration; they have to use QR code or Google registration to sign up.”
The tournament, open to four age categories (5–8, 9–12, 13–15, and 16–18), reflects Rhys’s continued commitment to youth development and community upliftment. As the only Belize-based coach accredited by USA Basketball, Rhys brings elite coaching standards to local courts, blending international experience with grassroots mentorship.
Rhys, Director of the Belize Global Elite Academy, is joined by CEO/founders Kashief Thomas—a Belizean now residing in Atlanta, Georgia—and Harold Grant, a Belizean American also known as the founder of How To Outwork University Basketball Academy in Los Angeles. Together, they’re powering a tournament that goes far beyond the scoreboard: 300 basketballs will be given away, every team will receive custom jerseys, and food will be provided for all players, referees, and event staff.
The event is fully powered by Belize Global Elite Academy, whose recent camps and outreach efforts have already begun reshaping the local basketball landscape. With Rhys’s USA Basketball accreditation and Thomas and Grant’s U.S. expertise, the Belize City Civic Center is set to host one of the most inclusive and energizing youth tournaments of the year.
