By Breaking Belize News Staff: Four men were remanded to prison on Tuesday following their arraignment before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court, while a fifth person—a woman accused of a serious sex offense involving a minor—had her case adjourned for two weeks.
Those arraigned were Ulide Allen, Marquis Conorquie, Andre Arthurs, and Mark Stevens. The two first-named men, Allen and Conorquie, were jointly indicted for the murder of Stanley Jerome Moore and the attempted murder of Joshua Gillett, which occurred on June 23, 2024, in Belize City. Both pleaded not guilty, and their case was adjourned to December 8, 2025.
Andre Arthurs was indicted for the murder of Mark Usher Jr., which took place on March 8, 2025, in Belize City. He also pleaded not guilty and appeared without legal representation. Justice Pilgrim adjourned his case to December 12, 2025, ordering that his attorney file a Case Management Conference (CMC) form by December 8, 2025.
Mark Stevens was the final male defendant to be arraigned. He was charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to kill Juan Carlos Reyes Pinesa on June 8, 2024, in Belize City. Stevens, who pleaded not guilty, was informed by Justice Pilgrim that he will be assigned legal counsel under Rule 9.9 of the Criminal Procedure Rules, which ensures his right to legal representation. His next court date is November 10, 2025.
The fifth person to appear before the court was Shania Welch, a resident of Gales Point Manatee, who is accused of committing a serious sex offense against a minor female. Her arraignment was postponed for two weeks and is now scheduled for November 14, 2025. Welch, who is out on bail, was represented by Attorney Nazira Myles-Espat.
All four male defendants remain in custody pending their next court appearances.
