By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Four individuals were detained following the discovery of suspected cannabis plants during a police search in Orange Walk Town earlier this week.
Police report that on Monday, April 6, between 7:20 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at the residence of 27-year-old David Perez on Rose Apple Street.
Present at the time were Perez, along with Milton Rodas, 20; Gianelly Perez, 32; and Melbourn Jones, 61.
According to authorities, nothing illegal was found inside the home. However, during a search of the yard, an officer discovered two suspected cannabis plants growing in a green container placed atop a septic tank.
All four individuals were informed of the offense of cultivation of a controlled drug, cautioned, and escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station along with the plants.
At the station, the plants were measured, with one standing approximately 10.5 inches tall and the other 4 inches. Samples were collected, sealed, and labeled as evidence in the presence of the individuals, who also signed the exhibit envelope.
The plants were photographed by Scenes of Crime personnel, and the exhibits were secured following proper chain of custody procedures.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
