Forum: Reflections on Censorship in the Arts

73

La Casa del Libro Museo Biblioteca invites you to the forum “Reflexión sobre la censura en el arte” [Reflections on censorship in art] organized by the museum in the framework of the exhibition “Isla Pirata” [Pirate Island] on view as part of the Puerto Rican Print Conference. Free and open to the public, this event is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 6:00pm, in the multipurpose room of the Museo de las Americas, Cuartel Ballajá, 2nd floor, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Moderated by writer and artist Vanessa Droz the forum includes artists Teresa Hernández, Lizette Lugo, Garvin Sierra, and Francisco Santiago, and attorney Félix Velázquez, professor of ethics.

La Casa del Libro explains: The conference conceptualized the “Isla Pirata” exhibition as a reaction and denunciation of the situations that our country [Puerto Rico] has been going through, since Hurricane María onwards, which have impacted us all in one way or another. [. . .]

At La Casa del Libro, we find it pertinent to have a public conversation on the issue of censorship, an issue that we see occur with increasing frequency in Puerto Rico, as well as in countries that are supposed to be guided by a democratic regime. We consider the forum an excellent opportunity to inform and educate all sectors.
