By Breaking Belize News Staff: A former accountant of the Fort George Hotel & Spa is out on bail after being accused of siphoning more than $125,000 from the company through unauthorized online transactions.
39-year-old Alicia Yvonne McKenzie, of Rivas Estate, Dangriga, was arraigned in Court #2 on Monday morning, where she faced a single charge of theft relating to a series of payments allegedly made into her personal bank account.
According to the allegation, between April 8 and August 15, 2025, McKenzie dishonestly appropriated $125,721.72 by using an online vendor payment system to transfer company funds into her personal bank account. The transactions reportedly appeared under multiple vendor names, all linked to one Belize Bank account—later identified as belonging to McKenzie.
No plea was taken, and she was granted bail of $10,000 plus two sureties of $5,000 each, which she met. As part of her bail conditions, McKenzie was required to surrender her travel documents, handing over her passport to the court before she could be released.
Police say the alleged scheme was uncovered when Fort George Hotel & Spa’s Financial Controller noticed irregular vendor payment records and traced multiple payments to the same bank account used by McKenzie. The findings were reported to police on September 1, 2025, leading to her arrest.
McKenzie’s next court date is scheduled for February 12, 2026.
