Former Prime Minister Said Musa celebrates 82nd Birthday

By Zoila Palma:  Today, former Prime Minister of Belize Said Musa is celebrating his 82nd birthday.

Musa’s family, friends and supporters of the People’s United Party have taken to social media to extend birthday wishes for the political giant.

Musa served as Belize’s Prime Minister from 1998 to 2008. He was the first Prime Minister of Belize to be elected to two consecutive terms since the country became independent in 1981.

Musa was instrumental in negotiating independence and helped to draft the country’s constitution.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Musa led Belize to significant growth including significant infrastructure expansion, high economic growth and a major focus on social investment in education and housing.

He championed the National Health Insurance scheme, free education initiatives, and established the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH).

In 2022, the University of Belize recognized Musa’s contribution to the development of Belize by awarding him with an Honorary Doctorate Degree.
