By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former police corporal Elmer Nah was today sentenced to three concurrent life sentences for the murders of Vivian Ramnarace, Jon Ramnarace, and David Ramnarace, bringing a major chapter in one of Belize’s most shocking murder cases to a close.
Nah was convicted last month for the triple murder that occurred on New Year’s Eve 2022, when the Ramnarace family was targeted in a deadly shooting.
The sentencing followed an emotional hearing on Thursday during which relatives of the victims described the devastating impact the killings have had on their lives.
Among the most moving moments was a victim impact statement delivered by Vivian Ramnarace’s sister, Vashti Belisle, who spoke about the pain and loss the family continues to endure more than three years after the tragedy.
The court also heard a message from Vivian Ramnarace’s young daughter, who lost both of her parents in the attack. According to the statement read before the court, the child initially requested that Nah be sentenced to 50 years in prison before later expressing that even such a lengthy sentence would not be enough.
Family members detailed the emotional and lasting effects of the murders, leaving many in the courtroom visibly affected.
Before sentencing, Nah’s attorney argued that his client was capable of rehabilitation and urged the court not to impose a life sentence.
Nah, who has consistently maintained his innocence, declined to participate in a Social Inquiry Report and called no character witnesses.
In a dramatic address to the court and the victims’ families today, Nah claimed that another former police officer was responsible for the killings, alleging that the officer had threatened his family.
Despite his conviction and sentence, Nah insisted his conscience was clear and maintained that the other officer was the real killer.
